Profile of Andrew Farmer.

 

 

The course record of 61 was set in July 1999 by Andrew Farmer, our most successful player to date.

 

Andrew was born in Bridge of Weir in 1974 and attended the local primary school. He later went on to The High School of Glasgow before finishing his formal education at Brevard College, Orlando and Lynn University, Boca Raton, Florida. He joined Kilmacolm Golf Club in 1991.

 

He first came on the international scene in 1990 when as a member of the Scottish boys team he gained his first cap. Further international appearances followed in 1991 and 92 during which time he was a member of the successful Scottish boys team along with Gordon Sherry and Stephen Gallacher who defeated England in the final of the European Boys Championship.


He also played for the Scottish Youth Team in 1991 and 1992 and gained a Great Britain Cap in 1992.


Full Scottish Caps followed in 1997, 1998 and 1999. One of the highlights of his International career was when along with Craig Watson he defeated Sergio Garcia and his partner 4 & 3 in what was Sergio's last amateur international.


In 2000 he won the British Mid Amateur at Royal Troon.

 

Andrew has been a regular member of the Club Newton Shield team as well as the Renfrewshire County Team.

 

He has won the Club Championship 6 times and has been a finalist 9 times. In 2008 although he did not win the Championship he set a tournament record of 128 (63, 65) for the Redcliff Rose Bowl, the 36 hole qualifying tournament for the knockout stages of the championship.

 

In recognition of his outstanding achievements the Club awarded Andrew honorary life membership in 2005.

 

Andrew is married to Helen and they have two children Alexander and Fiona.
