Sunday saw the culmination of all 3 Club Championships, Gents, Ladies & Junior.

GENTS:

In the morning semi finals 6 times winner Andy Farmer ran out 3&2 winner over Daryn Grant, with Jared Williams narrowly defeating 3 times winner Dave Pearson by 1 hole.

In the afternoon final no player was ever more than 1 up at any stage. Jared (last years Junior Champion) took an early lead at the 6th, following Andy’s bogey and it remained that way until 10th hole, when Jared reciprocated with a bogey to allow Andy to level. Jared responded immediately to take the lead at the 11th with a birdie. 12 & 13 were halved and at 14th Andy drew level with a steady par. Andy edged in front at 15th with a birdie 3 following an excellent approach shot. 16 & 17 were tied which left Andy 1 up going up 18. After 2 excellent drives and approach shots, Jared narrowly missed his birdie putt, leaving Andy 2 putts in secure his 7th club championship, which he duly completed.

An excellent final played in the best golf sporting traditions. Both players deserve praise for their standard of golf and sportsmanship.

Andy’s relief at finally overcoming his young challenger was summed up when he commented that Jared’s name will very likely appear on Champions Board in the near future, and no doubt more than once.

LADIES:

Once again the final was contested between Megan & Eilidh Briggs. In a keenly contested family affair Megan once again managed to overcome her younger sister to retain the Club Championship, for the 7th year running. A remarkable achievement.

The golf played by Megan & Eilidh was of the highest standard, and as Lady Captain Liz Crichton commented, Kilmacolm Golf Club is privileged to have 2 such fine golfers and ambassadors of the club in our midst. Eilidh’s name will undoubtedly appear some time soon on the champions board.

JUNIORS:

In the Junior Championship the final was contested between Paul Reilly and Jonathan (otherwise known as J J) Robb.

Again this was a close and keenly contested final, with each player giving their all. Paul managed to achieve an early lead which he maintained throughout by playing steady, consistent golf. He finally closed out the match on the 15th Green, winning 4 &3.  J J may look back on some missed putts which may have turned the match, however both players should be proud of their performance.

Jim Mackie, our Junior Convenor, looks forward to having both these talented golfers in our Junior Newton Shield team next year.
