CIVIC RECEPTION TO HONOUR GOLF CLUB

On Tuesday 29th June Provost Michael McCormick,on behalf of Inverclyde District Council   accorded Kilmacolm Golf Club a Civic Reception (held in the Grand Corridor of the Municipal Buildings) to honour the unique achievements of the Club and its members in 2009. Provost Michael presented Captain Kennedy Foster with an engraved Rosebowl to mark these achievements.

 

2009 was a landmark year for Kilmacolm,  Past Captain Colin Brown became Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, the highest pinnacle in the world of golf.

 

Another member, Rev Bill Hewitt, local minister of Westburn Church, was elected as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

 

On the golfing scene, Kilmacolm has the unique honour of having both a Men and Ladies Scottish Golfing Champion in this year, Megan Briggs being the Scottish Ladies Amateur Champion and Andrew Farmer being the Scottish Mid Amateur Champion. Megan along with her younger sister Eilidh won the Scottish Ladies Foursomes Championships.

Eilidh headed the SLGA Girls Order of Merit and also won her first Scottish Girls International Cap.

Andrew Farmer, David Miller and Matthew Clark were also part of the victorious Renfrewshire Area Golf Team who won the Scottish Area Championships at Crail.

 

As for the Club itself, long recognised as an attractive and friendly village golf club it was also delighted in this year to be included in the Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland  

The Reception was attended by the Committee, players and officials of the Club.
